The goal of the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC and the Tutor/Mentor Connection is to help volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs grow in all high poverty neighborhoods of Chicago, and in other cities, so more stories like this will be seen in future years. Visit this page to see a description of the "platform for social problem solving" being created by Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC and to use PAY PAL to help us make this resource more available to those who want to help inner city kids in 2012 and beyond.
Since 1993 we have been collecting and sharing information that has helped us lead a volunteer-based tutor/mentor program connecting 7-12th grade teens in Chicago with workplace voluneers. The information is available to volunteers, leaders, donors working with tutor/mentor programs and youth in any part of Chicago or in other cities around the world.
Through blogs, conferences, social media, etc. we attempt to raise more attention for tutor/mentor strategies so that more people become volunteers and donors and we mentor others to find and use the information we have aggregated on our web sites. Our long term goal is that this process and knowledge library be adopted within one or more universities where students, faculty and alumni will take on the commitment of building and sustaining constantly improving tutor/mentor programs in cities where they are located.
